Frequently asked questions
How do I get a student visa?
The first step in the student visa application process is to be accepted by a school (ESL-English as a Second Language school, vocational school, college, university). Upon acceptance by school, the school will issue you an acceptance letter (the required document you need to apply for F-1 student visa). Study in America is dedicated to assisting international students with all their immigration needs, and will guide you through all the steps.
How do I translate my documents?
Study in America will provide the translation. We are accredited by ATA (American Translators Association) and have other consultants assisting us with the translations as requested.
What if I do not like my university?
This is a very rare occurrence, but students can choose to switch universities after the first year if the fit is not right.
Is the student obligated to meet with Study in America every month?
No. Our monthly meetings are designed to provide support for the student during his/her adaptation period. Study in America meetings can be adjusted once the student feels he/she is completely adapted to life in America.
My English is not good. How can I make it better?
Students can arrive in Pittsburgh a few weeks prior to the beginning of school. Study in America will provide them an opportunity to practice their language skills during this period.
How to choose the right school for my needs?
First you must define your needs. Do you need to take English classes in order to continue with a university degree? Or are you a professional looking to better your career? Study in America can work with you to define your personal or professional goals and find the school that is best suited to meet your objectives.
Do I need to do any testing before arriving in America?
If you are starting at the University, you will need to take the TOEFL in your country. If you are coming to take English classes, you will take a proficiency test to define your English level after you have arrived at the school.
How many hours will I study a week?
It will vary immensely. You will be studying anywhere from 10 hours to 30 hours depending of the type of program you select.
